A police officer who was seen on camera boasting about extortion has been fired.

Richard Gele, the police inspector seen in a viral video boasting shamelessly about extorting members of the public and defending official corruption, has been fired by the Nigeria Police Force.

The video, which appeared online at the beginning of the week, depicted Gele asking motorists for bribes while traveling on a highway.

The officer openly asserted to the camera that his superiors, including the Inspector General of Police, were aware of his unlawful behavior at his place of employment, implying a widespread conspiracy. In the meantime, Gele’s termination was announced in a statement released on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi.
