Adewole: Nigerians Shouldn’t Be Surprised By Obasanjo Endorsement

Adebayo portrayed the support as only a declaration of a plan that the retired general conceived and carried out from the very beginning.

Olusegun Obasanjo’s endorsement of Peter Obi shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, according to Prince Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) presidential candidate for the 2023 election.

Adebayo portrayed the support as only a declaration of a plan that the retired general conceived and carried out from the very beginning.

The former president endorsed the Labour Party candidate for president in an eight-page letter published on January 1 and urged Nigerian youth to support the former governor of Anambra State.

Despite the fact that none of the presidential contenders are saints, Obasanjo claimed that Obi stands out from the crowd.

Several political figures have expressed outrage over the endorsement, which the APC presidential candidate has branded as useless.

The SDP presidential hopeful stated that he was not surprised by Obasanjo’s decision to support Peter Obi since he was simply being true to himself during a virtual interactive session with Nigerians led by Rudolf Okonkwo.

Nobody should pretend to be astonished that he supported a cause that he personally founded, supported, and raised money for, according to Prince Adebayo.

Adebayo claimed that because Obasanjo serves as the de facto director general of the Peter Obi campaign, nothing he did was new. “In his (Obasanjo’s) perspective, Peter Obi is merely an extension of his body similar to what he tried to do with the late President Umaru Yar’Adua,” a source close to the former president said of Peter Obi.

The SDP presidential candidate reaffirmed his appreciation for the stateman’s right to back whichever candidate they want in his or her remarks. Obasanjo’s activities, both inside and outside of government, he noted, created the foundation for the nation’s current issues.
