Army Division launches an inter-battalion contest for combat readiness

Five formations belonging to the 2 Division will participate in a variety of competitions throughout the course of the four-day exercise, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

In his remarks at the beginning of the competition, Maj.-Gen. Gold Chibuisi, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, stated that it was in keeping with the Army Headquarters’ training directive for the current year.

He claims that the purpose of the exercise is to raise the bar for battle readiness, physical strength, professionalism, and establishing a sense of camaraderie among the troopers in a team setting.

Brig.-Gen. Sani Abdullahi, Brigade Commander 4 Brigade, spoke on behalf of Chibuisi, who noted that the goals and objectives were just as important as realigning the Nigerian Army to more effectively carry out its duties.

In order to achieve the maximum level of professionalism, he asked the participants to get ready to be challenged, inspired, and show sportsmanship.

Hee explained that this was done in order to fulfill the Chief of Army Staff’s goal of creating “a professional Nigerian Army equipped to complete assigned duties within a Joint environment in defense of Nigeria.”

According to the GOC, the yearly event, which is planned for officers in the Major and 2nd Lieutenant rank brackets, “is aimed to strengthen the leadership characteristics of Junior commanders, their innovations, and prepare them for larger duties in a joint setting.”

Chibuisi claimed that “the competition could not have arrived at a better moment” given the need for strong military leadership in his beloved country.

He asserts that “it is our responsibility to jointly and patriotically regard ourselves as vanguard for the enthronement of concepts that will evoke country building; this kind of competition is one of such ideas, as our contributions to nation building are invaluable.”

An Army is only as strong as the training it offers its personnel in carrying out its roles, according to Brig.-Gen. Sani Abdullahi, Commander of 4 Brigade, earlier.

Abdullahi, who was represented by the Brigade Chief of Staff, Col. W. Diriya, said that it was because of this that competitions and exercises of this kind were included in the Nigerian Army’s training schedule.

According to him, the competition’s main goal was to position troops more effectively to face today’s issues and advance human growth.

He continued by saying that this was in line with the goal of the Chief of Army Staff.

4 Brigade Benin, 22 Brigade Ilorin, 32 Artillery Brigade Akure, 2 Division Garrison Ibadan, and 42 Division Engineers/52 Signal Brigade/Engineer Construction command Ibadan are among the participating forces, according to NAN.

Drills, combat swimming, map reading, weapon/shooting, and physical fitness are among the events that can be competed in.
