Brazilian returnee excretes 92 wraps of cocaine at Abuja airport

Okolie Nwabueze, a 53-year-old Brazilian returnee, was detained by agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja for allegedly bringing 92 wraps of cocaine into the country.

The drugs were ingested by Nwabueze, a father of two, who eventually passed them after being monitored for days in the agency’s facility.

This was said in a statement made on Sunday in Abuja by Mr. Femi Babafemi, Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA.

Babafemi claims that the suspect, a resident of Mmaku village in Enugu State’s Awgu Local Government Area, was apprehended on September 2.

He was detained when he boarded a Qatar Airline flight bound for Abuja from Brazil.

The suspect, according to the NDLEA spokesperson, claimed to have moved from Nigeria to Mozambique in 2004 before finally settling in Brazil in 2017.

He continued by saying that he paid $4,000 here to get a resident permit before opting to import the illegal substance.

In a same vein, Aliyu Kwasare, 42, was detained at Kano’s Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA).

According to Babafemi, the suspect was apprehended while attempting to export a shipment of the brand-new psychoactive drug “Akuskura” to Saudi Arabia.

He said that the suspect, a resident of Kano’s Goron Dutse neighborhood and a native of Kware LGA, Sokoto, had been detained on September 5.

He claimed to have been detained while boarding an Ethiopian Airlines trip to Riyadh.

Another development involves the seizure of 1.099 million Tramadol (225mg) tablets at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos.

Babafemi claimed that NDLEA and Nigerian Customs worked together across agencies to intercept the drugs.

“The pharmaceutical opioids packed in 50 cartons weighing 2,058.90kg, were imported from Pakistan via Addis-Ababa on Ethiopian Airways.

“The consignment was concealed among other non-controlled pharmaceuticals.

“Also, a freight agent, Aliyu Abubakar, was on Friday arrested at the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO) export shed of the airport.

“The arrest was over an attempt to export a consignment of cannabis concealed inside bottles of Caro white body lotion,” he said.
