Fake Soldier killed Sheikh who gave him a lift.
The arrest was verified by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu.
On Saturday, the Yobe Police Command announced the arrest of two suspects in the murder of Sheikh Goni Aisami, a scholar of Islam.
The two suspects, according to him, had claimed to be troops assigned to the 241 Recce Model Battalion in Nguru.
He claimed that after Aisami provided one of the suspects with a ride at 10 o’clock on Friday, the event happened.
He explained that the main suspect, who was wearing a mufti and carrying a camp bed, begged him for a ride to Jaji-Maji while Aisami was driving his automobile from Nguru to Gashua.
The cleric “stopped the car as we approached Jaji-Maji to urinate,” he added, adding that as he turned around to continue driving, the main suspect pulled out an AK-47 and fatally shot him twice.
Abdulkarim added that the suspect attempted to flee in the deceased’s car but was unsuccessful because it became stuck in mud and would not start.
“He made a call to the second suspect, who arrived at the site in a different car. He had the unfortunate drive shaft failure.
“The two suspects then asked a vigilante in Jaji-Maji for assistance.
Aisami’s death was discovered at the location when the crew arrived to tow the broken-down vehicles, the police official added.
According to Abdulkarim, the police were alerted by the vigilance group, and the suspects—who claimed to be soldiers—were eventually taken into custody.
He added that an effort was being made to confirm the identification of the suspects and that the police had collected the two automobiles and the gun.
After the inquiry is complete, according to Abdulkarim, the suspects will face legal action.
