Law graduate Aminat breaks LASU 40 years academic record with 5.00 CGPA

Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, has achieved a remarkable milestone in its 40-year history by producing its first graduate with a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.00.

 

Yusuf Aminat Imoitesemeh, a student from the Faculty of Lagos, has set a new academic record as the top-performing graduate. This significant achievement was announced by Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the Vice Chancellor of LASU, during a pre-convocation briefing. As a recognition of her exceptional accomplishment, Aminat will be rewarded with a cash prize of N500,000.

 

Prof. Olatunji-Bello further shared that a total of 10,183 students would be graduating during the 2-in-1 ceremony, representing the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic sessions. Among them, 282 students have obtained First-Class honors across various fields of study.

In terms of academic excellence, Yusuf Aminat Imoitesemeh, belonging to the 2021/2022 academic session, stands out as the highest achiever with a perfect 5.00 CGPA. Meanwhile, Lopez Feyisayo Divine, from the Department of Physiology in the College of Medicine, achieved an outstanding CGPA of 4.91 in the 2020/2021 set.

 

As part of the convocation events, a lecture titled “The Impact of Digitalization on Higher Education in the Digital Age” will be delivered by Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). The convocation lecture, scheduled for Tuesday, June 20, 2023, will be chaired by Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC). The lecture will take place at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Main Campus, Ojo.

 

The awarding of diplomas, first degrees, postgraduate diplomas, and master’s degrees is planned for Wednesday, June 21st. On the final day of the ceremonies, Thursday, June 22nd, the university will confer PhD degrees, distinguished professorships, honorary doctorate degrees, and appreciation awards on prominent individuals who have made significant contributions to LASU and the nation as a whole.

The breakdown of First-Class graduates reveals that the 2020/2021 academic session produced 148 graduates, the 2021/2022 academic session yielded 128 graduates, and the Sandwich (2022 modular year) program had 6 graduates. This cumulative number of 282 First-Class students across the two academic sessions represents the highest in LASU’s four-decade history.

 

Prof. Olatunji-Bello expressed her delight in announcing the best-graduating students. Lopez Feyisayo Divine, from the Department of Physiology, College of Medicine, achieved a remarkable CGPA of 4.91, securing First-Class Honors in the 2020/2021 academic session. In the 2021/2022 academic session, Yusuf Aminat Imoitesemeh, a Law student, accomplished an unprecedented CGPA of 5.00, earning First-Class Honors. Prof. Olatunji-Bello extended her congratulations to Yusuf, her family, and the Faculty of Law for this commendable feat.

 

In addition to awarding doctorate degrees to 121 postgraduate students, LASU will confer honorary doctorate degrees and appreciation awards on eight distinguished Nigerians who have made significant contributions to the development of LASU and the nation at large. The honorary awardees include Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, former governor; Mrs. Claudiana Ibijoke

 

Sanwo-Olu, wife of the state governor; Oba Saheed Elegushi; Dr. Daniel Olukoya; Dr. John Olukayode Fayemi; Olufemi Gbajabimila; Oba Suleiman Raji Ashade; and Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire.
