Following the announcement that Bishop Callistus Onaga had replaced Fr. Ejike Mbaka as the Spiritual Director of Amen, there was chaos at the Adoration Ministries, Enugu, Nigeria, AMEN, on Sunday evening.

During the Sunday Mass, Fr. Mbaka personally announced that Fr. Anthony Amadi had been named the new Spiritual Director of AMEN by the bishop, with assistance from other unnamed priests.

The church has appointed one of us, Fr. Anthony Amadi, to be overseeing all ministry affairs, to be assisted by other priests, pending my return, by the grace of God, Mbaka said. “So, while I proceed to the monastery to finish the remaining disciplinary exercises, as directed; I wouldn’t know how long;

The ministry has not yet officially opened, said to Mbaka, who also noted that other programs, such as the weekly Friday all-night adoration, were suspended until further notice.

He said that while some programs, like Friday all-night adoration, would continue to be suspended, other programs, like our Sunday Masses and Wednesday’s “E No Dey Again” programs, would not.

After the announcement, enraged worshipers almost lynched Fr. Amadi, who was present at the Mass. Before AMEN security personnel rushed to his aid and led him to the Father’s house, the enraged mob had already engulfed him.

When the congregation suddenly began shouting “we say no,” “we say no,” and beginning to carry green leaves, Fr. Mbaka had barely mentioned the name of the new priest before the Mass had to be abruptly ended.

Following an earlier widespread word that Bishop Onaga had removed the ministry’s restriction, thousands of believers flocked to the prayer center in a frenzy from far and wide.

However, the most recent development left them feeling disappointed.

According to a source who spoke to our reporter, Fr. Mbaka was only permitted to celebrate Mass at the center so that he could make the announcement in person.

You may remember that in the middle of June 2022, Bishop Onaga placed a covert ban on the fiery priest.

He had merely declared that all Catholic believers, clergy, and religious were forbidden from attending any of the AMEN programs, a Catholic ministry that Mbaka had started and was in charge of.
