The Ondo State Progressive Activators (OSPA) have appreciated esteemed guests, speakers, and participants who graced and ensured the success of OSPA’s first leadership symposium held on the 20th of May, 2023 at the Ondo City Resource Centre, (OSRC), in Ondo City, Ondo State, Nigeria.


The dynamics of leadership in the 21st century is such that has become a source of concern going by the quality and depth of persons that public institutions and political system have continually thrown up over time.


Going by the trajectory of uncharitable events, seemingly backwardness, and the scenario of crass insecurity and divisive tendencies that has continually pervaded the African continent generally and Nigeria in particular, there is the need to occasion a platform for serious discussions and re-invention of leadership for the greater good of all and not the persistent promotion of personal or sectional interests.


The foregoing is the major crux of discussions and deliberations at the recently concluded leadership symposium put together by the Ondo State Progressive Activators OSPA with the theme DEVELOPING A NEW GENERATION OF LEADERS; THE FOUNDATION FOR NIGERIA’S PROSPERITY AND NATIONAL COHESION.

Ondo State Progressive Activators, a group of young budding intellectuals with moderate exposure to the socio-political and economic development of the Ondo Kingdom, Ondo State, and Nigeria at large.


OSPA, an intellectual platform acting on the conscious attempt to occasion a new strand of politics that is in line with modern-day realities and the demands for a paradigm shift from the old way of doing things to a new order that ensures that we infuse intellectualism and due processes into mainstream politics, especially at the grassroots.


The leadership symposium was graced by notable heads of different institutions as well as several individuals within Ondo state and was chaired by Professor Ogunduyile Sunday Robert (the immediate past vice chancellor, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa.), and co-chaired by Mrs. Agunbiade Abiola (CEO, Biola Best fashing, Ondo City.)


Brig. Gen. Funso Oyeneyin rtd and Barr. Sarafa  O. Okewoye did justice to the theme in such a way that exposed the participants to the emerging trends in leadership and governance across several jurisdictions and countries of the world in line with the demands of the 21st century and the conscientious effort to occasion change.


General Funso Oyeneyin in his speech highlighted the various ingredients and components of leadership and also demystified the problem of leadership in Africa and other developing economies of the world.


He also posited that a tsunami of change spearheaded by vibrant, relentless, visionary, innovative young people is brewing and sweeping around the nations of the world and also dismantling generational hegemony and resistance of the old order.


Barrister Sarafa O. Okewoye on his part believes that education is a very vital bedrock of the development of any society as evident in saner climes that have been able to achieve growth, development, and civilization.


He opined that we cannot continue to do things the same way and achieve different results. He dwelled more on describing a leader as someone who must have a vision for the organization, a leader must be passionate enough to work with other members of the organization to achieve set goals, leaders must be curious to travel and explore paths, leaders must be able to ameliorate the challenges faced by his followers,  a leader must be someone courageous to take a firm decision for the overall development of the organization.


Barrister Sarafa O. Okewoye also stressed further that, getting leadership right is a major precursor to even development and sheer prosperity, national cohesion, as well ensuring that the nation is adequately and properly secured from all forms of internal uprisings and foreign aggressions as well all form of threats to national security.


He finally demystified leadership and x-rayed the benefits inherent in setting a proper leadership tone for the overall benefit, prosperity, and cohesion of our dear Ondo Kingdom, Ondo State, and Nigeria at large.


The panel section dotted with individuals with notable achievements and worthwhile success in their various fields of endeavor provided insights and revelations into leadership, economy, governance, and politics as it affects young people and the general populace for shared prosperity and national cohesion.


Those who participated in the panel section are Hon. Akintunde John Folajimi (Jimi Ok), Vice Chairman Ondo West local government; Chief Laide Akinnuoye; Barr. Bada Maruf M, the Executive Secretary, Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board Ondo West division;  Mr. Isijola Oladipupo; Madam Oghenemairo Adegeye, Chief Editor, Reality Life Magazine; Engr. Hon. Onidare Sunday Bukunmi (OSB), CEO, YETSUM Ventures/ OSB Lands and Properties; Mrs ABIOLA Agunbiade, the CEO of Biola Best Fashion; Mr. Olakanmi Olayinka among others.


Dignitaries from across Ondo State were at the symposium, reflecting the significance of the event.


While appreciating the guests and speakers, the General Secretary, Prince Adedamola Adedejo Benard who spoke on behalf of the entire members and leaders of the Ondo State Progressive Activators at home and in diaspora extended their warm appreciation to all participants, guests, and speakers. for attending the first Edition of the Leadership Symposium held on Saturday, 20th of May, 2023 at the Ondo City Resource Center (OCRC) in Ondo City.


He continued, indeed, we are thrilled to have you all join us and we hope that you found the event valuable, informative, and unprecedented in the political history of Ondo Kingdom, Ondo State, and Nigeria at large; your presence at the event made it all the more special.


In the same vein, your participation, enthusiasm, and positive spirit all through helped to make the event a great success and we are grateful for your support.


We hope to have your presence in our future events and we are equally looking forward to partnership where necessary, he said.
