Bashir El-Rufai, the son of the governor of Kaduna State, has advocated for the dissolution of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The Academic Staff Union of Universities in Nigeria (ASUU) was established in 1978. It was founded in 1965 as a branch of the Nigerian Association of University Teachers.

The union had been on an indefinite strike since February 14, 2022. Or to put it another way, the union has been on strike for almost seven months now, calling for, among other things, the deployment of UTAS to replace IPPIS and the adoption of the 2009 renegotiated agreement, which provides the terms of service for its members.

But given the protracted disputes with FG, ASUU asked Nigerian students and, of course, parents to lobby FG to accede to her demands.

Angered by the protracted strike, Bashir referred to the union as useless and said that it should be abolished in favor of educators who have the best interests of students at heart.

His words: “ASUU is a very useless Union. They should be scrapped & replaced with educators that actually give a damn about students and how that translates to the future of this country
