As a form of protest at the murder of one of them, students from Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, set four houses on fire in Imaweje, in the Odogbolu local government area of Ogun. One of those buildings was owned by the Baale of Imaweje, the institution’s host community.

A 300-level student, whose identity could not be determined at the time this story was filed, was apparently killed by the community, it was learned.

Residents of the neighborhood allegedly suspected the deceased of being a cultist and then killed him as a result.

However, other students who disapproved of the community’s jungle justice turned violent after the student’s death.

Our reporter learned that the issue began last Friday from a source who spoke anonymously to him.

When the students learned of the situation, they brought the deceased to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.”Presently, police and soldiers have been patrolling the area to restore peace.” This caused the students, especially his gang, to go on the rampage and even set fire to the community’s “Baale” building and other homes that acted as students’ hostels.

Another source  reported that “certain cultists alleged that the community killed one of them and started going for the leaders of the group. As we speak, four houses are on fire.

Following the incident, the school administration decided to close it.

In a statement made available to reporters on Sunday, the school’s registrar, Dapo Oke, provided this information and advised the pupils to leave until calm had returned.

While confirming the occurrence, Oke stated that there had been a fight between some pupils from the Imaweje community and the locals near the school.

The university management hereby announces the closure of the university in light of the recent altercation between students and members of the university host community in the early hours of Sunday, particularly the Iwameje community.

While efforts are being made with law enforcement to restore peace and order in the affected neighborhood, parents and guardians are now advised to quickly bring their wards home, especially those who live in and around Iwameje.
