Very Rev Fr. Dr Anthony Adewale Ojo: Life in a flash

Very Rev Fr. Dr. Anthony Adewale Ojo was born into the family of Late Pa. Joachim Ademisanle Ogundare Ojo and Mrs. Rachel Durodayo Ojo on the 20th of August 1952 in Okeigbo of Ile-oluji/Oke-igbo local government area of Ondo State of Nigeria.

He had his primary school education at Emmanuel primary school Olojo, Okeigbo, St. James primary school Oduduwa, Okeigbo and St. John primary school Eleta Ibadan.

His secondary education was achieved at Sacred Heart Minor Seminary in Araromi street Akure.

He then proceeded to the seminary of SS. Peter and Paul, Bodija, Ibadan, for preparation to the Catholic priesthood and was ordained a Catholic priest on the 19th of December 1981 at St. James Catholic Church ground, Okeigbo, Ondo State.

He started his Appostolate as the Bishop Secretary and at the same time assistant to the administrator to the Sacred Heart Cathedral Akure.

He was appointed rector of Sacred Heart Minor Seminary 1982-1984. From there went for further studies in Rome to study Sacred scripture and graduated with licentiate in 1988.

He was the pioneer parish priest of the then newly created parish St. James Catholic Church Okeigbo in October 1988. In September 1989, he was summoned to the seminary of SS. Peter and Paul as a lecturer of Sacred scripture.

In 1994 he went back to Rome for further studies and graduated in 1996 with a doctorate degree.

He then returned to the seminary to continue his Job as a lecturer where he served until 2009.

In 2009, he returned to Ondo Diocese where he took up pastoral assignment and was made the assistant parish priest of St. Pius parish Igbotako from 2009-2010, he was parish priest of St. Clara Catholic Church Iwaro-Oka where he was the pioneer parish priest.

In 2010 he was transferred to Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church as their parish priest till 2015 from where he was then transferred to St. John Bosco Catholic Church Ijapo where he is parish priest till date.

Within these years he took up some post of responsibility. In the seminary,

  • he was sport director 1989-1994
  • head of department of theology 1992-1994
  • Dean of student 1996-2001 Vicar General 2010 to date.
  • He was member of Yoruba Bible translation committee, Bible society of Nigeria 1989-2009
  • He is a member of Catholic theologian Association of Nigeria (CATHAN).
  • He is the chairman South west of Nigeria Association of Catholic Theologian from the year 2012- date.

Father Anthony is grateful to God for the gift of priesthood and for the gift of life. The vocation he embrace is full of ups and downs but on this day his grateful to God for sustaining him.

On this day he has called friends and well wishers both home and abroad to rejoice with him for the gift of life and to appreciate God his creator, his bishops for their fatherly roles, the effort of his late parents, the love and care he received from his siblings, his brother Priests and the entire people of God.

He pray for God’s blessings over all who have come to rejoice with him on this day.
