Why I arranged my husband’s abduction – Wife

Mrs Joy Sunday, a 40-year-old woman arrested by the Akwa Ibom Police Command on Friday for conspiracy in the kidnapping of her husband, has revealed why she masterminded her partner’s abduction.

She claimed she got involved in the act because her husband had denied her sex and money for far too long.

According to reports, the kidnappers demanded N10 million as a ransom and later reduced it to N2 million, which was paid before the police apprehended them at the point of sharing the loot.

The suspect, who was among 29 others paraded by the State Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, for various offenses including kidnapping, robbery, and child theft, claimed she had been forced to do manual labor to support herself and her children after her husband married another woman.

She also stated that when one of her children completed secondary school, there was no money to send him on to further education.

“I arranged for my husband’s kidnapping because he had abandoned me with his children for a long time,” she explained. He abandoned me even when my father and mother-in-law were still alive. He was never concerned about his children. “I worked menial jobs like weeding on other people’s farms to feed my children and pay their school fees.” One of the children finished secondary school, and I approached my husband about how to send the son to learn a trade because his father refused to send him to university, but my husband ignored me. My husband refused to have sex with me and does not care for me or the children, so I arranged for his kidnapping.”

“The kidnapper who collected the N2 million ransom never gave me my share, and I’ve never seen the money.” The police apprehended the kidnappers while they were sharing the N2m, and they mentioned me. They never gave me any of the ransom money that was collected from my husband.

“The kidnapping kingpin (now at large), identified as Udo Moji, assured me that he would collect the money from my husband on my behalf because my husband had attacked me and poured soup on me.” So I agreed to his terms, and he kidnapped my husband. I dashed around looking for money to pay the kidnappers. Udo moji, the main suspect, fled.

Mr. Emmanuel Sampson Ebong, who hails from Ntak Obio Akpa in the state’s Oruk Anam Local Government Area, described his ordeal as follows: “I was kidnapped on July 21, 2022 in my compound.” I returned from where I had gone for treatment because I was weak. Around 8.30 p.m., I noticed six people in my compound. They struggled with me and fired two gunshots into the air before taking me out of my compound in a minibus and driving away.

“They kept me from Thursday until Sunday and demanded N10m from me, which they later reduced to N2m before the police arrived that day. If it hadn’t been for God, they would have killed me.”

“They took me to Etinan and imprisoned me.” I want to thank the Nigeria Police for the rescue efforts. I also want to thank my Village Head. I’m not sure why they kidnapped me, but they took N2m from me. Later, the police recovered over N500,000 from them.

Meanwhile, while paradeing the suspects, the Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, vowed that his command would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that residents of the state sleep with their eyes closed.
